Fonterra has announced that Leonie Guiney, wife of Cork native Kieran Guiney, has been elected to its board.

Leonie, along with her husband Kieran, farm 3,000 cows in the shadow of Mount Dobson, near Fairlie in New Zealand.

Fonterra is the world’s largest co-operatively-owned dairy company and collects in the region of 22 billion litres of milk each year.

Last year Guiney spoke at the Positive Farmers Dairy Conference in Clonmel, Co Tipperary where there is a record attendance of 475 people.

She espoused that financial discipline encompasses more than budgeting, it encompasses understanding the intrinsic value of things, which is key for farmers considering dairy expansion.
