Ireland has retained its fourth place on the EU deadweight cattle price league table, the latest Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) figures show.

For the week ending May 31, the average R3 heifer price in Ireland was 417.8c/kg, down 3.2c/kg from the 421c/kg paid in the week ending May 3, it says.

Ireland is 24.5c/kg above the EU average of 393.3c/kg, according to the LMC.

In Northern Ireland, the average R3 heifer price was the equivalent of 445.2c/kg down 18.1c/kg from 463.3c/kg in the week ending May 3.

This placed Ireland 27.34c/kg lower than the equivalent price paid in the North, the LMC says.

The North’s R3 heifer price was 51.9c/kg higher than the EU average in the week ending May 31 compared to 65.7c/kg in the week ending May 3, it says.

The North also retains its second place space on the EU deadweight cattle prices league table, the LMC says.

In the UK, for the week ending May 31, the average R3 cattle price was the equivalent of 463.4c/kg, a decrease of 6.1c/kg from the week ending May 3, it says.

The decrease in the UK R3 heifer price resulted in the UK/EU price differential narrowing from 71.9c/kg in the week ending May 3 to 70.1c/kg in the week ending May 31, the LMC says.

The average R3 heifer price in the EU was down 4.3c/kg for the week ending May 31 to 393.3c/kg, it says.

Sweden continues to hold its third place spot ahead of Ireland on the EU deadweight cattle prices league table.

The average R3 heifer price in Sweden increased by 20.7c/kg to 439c/kg for the week ending May 31, the figures show.
