Renowned pastry supremo Louise Lennox was on hand to create some culinary wonders at the launch of Siúcra’s Sure-Set sugar yesterday evening. Siucra ambassador Lennox managed to dish out some excellent savoury and sweet treats, divulge some useful tips on baking and advised us all to ditch the diets!
When we think of jam our minds immediately jump to images of scones, pastries and Darina Allen types. Siurca have challenged this notion by including a host of savoury recipes such as the quickly devoured homemade crackers with pepper chilli jam. In addition they are encouraging everyone to get making their own jam and with the Siúcra Sure-set sugar some of the more intimidating elements of jam-making have been eliminated.
Sure-set sugar provides a shorter boiling time with benefits including a stronger, fresher fruit flavour, more natural colour and a longer preservation period. With the correct balance of acid and pectin, Sure-Set sugar will set a fruity jam that will keep, allowing you to enjoy mouth-watering homemade jams for longer. Not only is homemade jam tastier it is also more cost effective and Lennox also advises that many of the shop bought varieties, even the expensive brands, are filled with artificial colourings.
