Multi-award winning dairy business Green Pastures has launched a new fleet of high-tech milk collection tankers, employing the latest technology to reduce milk collection times on farm and automate the secure transfer of information needed to pay farmers for the milk collected.

Green Pastures recently took delivery of the first two of its new fleet of milk tanker,s which boast cutting-edge GPRS and GPS systems, allowing the tanker itself to automatically recognise which farm it is on and to send in real-time milk collection and quality information for that farm directly into the company’s computer milk procurement system.

Relying  on progressive data management for more efficiency and security of its ‘milk on the move’, Green Pastures has availed of  a reliable data acquisition systems with electronic data  perfectly suited for fully automated, calibratable milk quantity registration as well as supplier recognition and safe supplier and sampling identification.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technologies such as GPS supplier recognition, data transfer by satellite and GSM the new tankers are the latest development in an ambitious investment programme for this fast growing and innovative dairy company as it strives to substantially increase its direct farm milk supply in line with the company’s UK and Ireland growth strategy.

The new tankers are equipped to pump up to 75,000 litres of milk per hour reducing collection time on farm and allowing a more efficient operation of the overall milk assembly side of its supply chain.

Using GIS technology for milk procurement contributes to the company’s ongoing quest to reduce its carbon foot print as part of the company’s ‘Natural by Nature’ sustainability programme.

John Molloy, Green Pastures Owner said: “This new tanker technology allows us to track our tankers by satellite and have real-time information on the temperature, location, time and volume of milk collected from each farmer also the time and temperature of washes. This from a customer point of view improves product traceability while at the same time providing a better service to our family farm suppliers delivering real improvements through better route planning and in doing so leading to greater efficiencies.”
