Four calves had a lucky escape recently after they fell into a slurry tank at Ashfield Road, Clogher, Co. Tyrone.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) responded to the incident which happened on Wednesday, February 22.

Firefighters and special rescue teams wearing breathing apparatus used slings, harnesses, hooks and Telescopic Manitou to rescue these animals from the slurry pit.

Fire crews from Clogher and Omagh stations attended the incident.

Earlier this month, two calves died after they fell into a slurry tank at a farm in Carrickmore, Pomeroy, Co.Tyrone.

Another calf who fell into the slurry tank was rescued by the NIFRS and survived.

Specialist animal rescue teams and firefighters used a gas monitor, slings, a grap pole and a telehandler to remove the two dead calves and the live one from the slurry tank.

Hay and machinery shed goes on fire

The NIFRS also responded to a fire involving a shed with large quantity of hay and machinery at Longstone Road, Annalong, Kilkeel, Co. Down, yesterday, February 23.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hosereel jets, two main jets, a covering jet and a compressed air foam jet to extinguish the blaze.

The cause of the fire appeared accidental and fire crews from Kilkeel, Newcastle and Warrenpoint stations attended the incident.
