The finalists of the Macra na Feirme Forage Systems ‘Making the most of your grass silage’ competition were launched at the National Ploughing Championships today.

Speaking at the announcement at the Macra President, Kieran O’Dowd said: “We are delighted to continue working with Forage Systems on the ‘Making the most of your grass silage’ competition. It is an excellent platform to highlight the importance of producing high-quality grass silage. Congratulations to all the finalists and best of luck in the final round.”

The finalists are as follows:

Munster
John Murray Bellinderry Carrick on Suir Co Tipperary
Matt Ambrose Cahirbaroule Macroom Co Cork

Leinster
Philip Brady Ballinlough Kells Co Meath
Siobhan Walsh Loughteague Stradbally Co Laoise

North West

The six finalists have won a €65 voucher for Grasstec products and services. Managing director of KW Forage Systems, Jim Buckley, said: “We are again delighted to sponsor this competition. The standard is exceptional this year. Last year’s winner wouldn’t make the top 20 this year. We are looking forward to interviewing the regional winners and finding out who the overall winner is for this fantastic prize.”

All six finalists will now go forward to the national final which will take place in the Irish Farm Centre, Dublin, in October. The overall winner will receive a place on the Today FM Ian Dempsey ski trip.
