Goat classes and pig agility competitions are part of the line-up at this year’s Tullow Agricultural Show, which will take place at Coppenagh, Tullow, Co. Carlow, on Sunday, August 20.

There will be classes for cattle, sheep, horses and ponies. The pig agility contest is new this year, and there will also be dog agility demonstrations.

The Edward O’Byrne Memorial Cup will be awarded to the best animal in the cattle section with a Co. Carlow address.

The horse section proves very popular at the Tullow Show every year, with a line-up including: pony club games; miniature horse novelty jumping; and the All-Ireland broodmare and foal competition qualifier – the final of which will be held at the Iverk Show on August 26.

Also taking place will be the A. Browne Filly Foal All-Ireland Championship qualifier, with the final to be held at the Moate Show on August 27.

Other highlights include: the Overall Pairs Cattle Championship; the All-Ireland Tug-of-War and Ladies Tug-of-War; tractor pulling; a vintage machinery display; donkey classes;  a fashion show; and competitions for the most appropriately dressed man and woman.

The food pavilion will have cookery demonstrations with chefs Shane Smith and Aaron McCarthy, cocktail making and food and beverages to be sampled and bought.

There will be categories for: home and dairy; poultry; farm produce; flowers; photography; and crafts. A pets’ corner will be hosted, with the dog show starting at 2:00pm.

The national art and writing competition will be judged on the day. The entertainment programme will include performances by a large group of dancers – ‘Dancing with Declan’.

A free trade stand has been offered to all new businesses in Co. Carlow which have set up in the last 12 months.
