A female cyclist in Co. Cork has been killed following a collision with a tractor this afternoon, according to An Garda Siochana.

Gardai confirmed that they are investigating a fatal road traffic collision involving a tractor and a female cyclist on the N28, the road connecting Cork city to Ringaskiddy.

The collision is believed to have occurred at approximately 1:00pm today, September 13.

The female cyclist, understood to be in her 60s, suffered fatal injuries when she was involved in the collision with a tractor, the Gardai confirmed. The driver of the tractor was uninjured.

The body of the woman has been removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination is set to take place.

Traffic diversions are in place and forensic collision investigators are at the scene, Gardai added.

Traffic approaching from Shannon Park roundabout is diverted to Carrigaline and traffic from Ringaskiddy is diverted to Rapheen.

Recently, members of the Gardai have also been investigating another fatal road traffic collision involving three vehicles in Co. Cork. The collision reportedly occurred at 11:00am on Monday morning, September 11, on the N20 Cork to Mallow Road at the Waterloo junction.

A man and a woman, both believed to be in their 60s, were pronounced dead at the scene after the car that they were passengers in was involved in a collision with a truck.

Meanwhile, the driver of the car and the third passenger – a male and female, also in their 60s – were taken to Cork University Hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.

The driver of the second car involved was taken to Cork University Hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening. The driver of the truck was uninjured.
