A number of farmers appeared on the latest Revenue tax defaulters list for the second quarter of 2016 (April – June).

Some 14 farmers featured on the failure to lodge income tax returns list, while a number of farmers were also fined for the under declaration of income tax or capital gains tax.

Co. Kilkenny farmer and company director Michael Bonnettstown owes €153,125.00 to the Revenue for the under-declaration of capital gains tax, the largest amount any farmer owes this time to Revenue.

Patrick Dermody, an auctioneer and farmer from Co. Galway owes the Revenue €49,199.91 for the under-declaration of income tax.

Farmer and company director Thomas Buckley from Co. Clare also appeared on the tax defaulters list for under-declaration of VAT, income tax and the non-declaration of non-capital gains tax. In total, he owes the Revenue €42,789.49.

Co. Wexford farmer and marquee hire agent Seamus Mullawnree is also facing a tax bill of €29,1955.00 for the under-declaration of income tax and Paye/PRSI.

While, retired farmer John Patrick O’Connor from Co. Kerry also appeared on the Revenue Tax Defaulter’s list for the under-declaration of capital gains tax. In total he owes the Revenue €68,699.00.

14 farmers fail to lodge income tax returns

According to the Revenue some 14 farmers made the list for failing to lodge income tax returns. Peter Nash, a farmer from Co. Limerick, owes the highest amount with a bill of €15,000, while Gerard Hanley from Co. Roscommon owes €2.500.

  • John McNerney, Co. Longford – Farmer – €1,250
  • Terry Moore, Co. Dublin –  Farmer – €1,250
  • Denis Murphy, Co. Limerick – Farmer – €1,250
  • Paul Naughton, Co Roscommon – Farmer/Partnership – €1,250
  • Patrick O’Dea, Co. Clare – Farmer – €1,250
  • Eamonn Stapleton, Co. Tipperary – Farmer – €1,250

Several farmers fined for the misuse of mineral oil

Several farmers were also fined for the misuse of mineral oil, with the fines for this offence ranging from €2,500-3,000.
