Met Eireann has issued a status red weather warning for Cork and Kerry.

According to Met Eireann, stormy conditions will affect the area during the day. It expects southerly winds of 60 to 70 km/h will gust to 120 km/h and will veer westerly by late morning. Winds will increase 75 to 85 km/h and will gust 130 to 160 km/h.

Met Eireann has also issued a status orange wind warning for Wexford, Galway, Mayo, Clare, Limerick and Waterford.

A status yellow wind warning is also in effect for counties Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo and Tipperary

Met Eireann predicts extremely windy weather will sweep up from the south during today, affecting these areas. Westerly winds 50 to 65 km/h will gust to 100 to 110 km/h.

On the outlook for the rest of the week. Met Eireann says Thursday will be a cold, blustery day, with bright or sunny spells and showers. Some showers will be heavy, with a few wintry ones in the morning, especially over Ulster. Temperatures will range from five to seven degrees.

Looking further ahead very unsettled and changeable weather is expected. Met Eireann forecasts another deep depression and storm to track towards us for the early part of the weekend. It noted that the exact track is not fully determined as of yet, so keep in tune with its regular weather updates updates.

Met Eireann says following a cold night on Thursday, frost and ice will clear gradually on Friday morning. It says however that present charts indicate another deep low pressure area will affect the country.

So more very wet, windy and blustery weather, is set to sweep up from the south, as the day progresses. The rain may well be preceded by some sleet or wet snow. There is a risk of some local spot flooding too.

Met Eireann says it will stay very windy and blustery overnight and for Saturday with strong and very gusty west to northwest winds. There will be further rain or showers too, some wintry in places. Saturday night will very cold and frosty with icy roads.

At this stage it forecasts that Sunday will be a cold day, with sunny spells and just scattered rain or hail showers.
