The latest daily milk deliveries data from AHDB/DairyCo shows a fall in production in the second week of May.

It says a cold snap over this period is considered the main driver of this drop, as production picked back up to over 43 million litres/day in the last few days of the survey, which runs to May 17.

Because of this, and the fact that improved conditions in the latest week may have supported production further, it is not yet confirmed whether the UK is definitely past the peak of milk production.

However, there are suggestions in the industry that production is declining, with pressure on processing capacity easing and spot prices for milk reported to be up. Any confirmation of this is therefore likely to be in the daily deliveries for the current week, which will be key in identifying the pattern of UK milk production through the peak.
