The weekend weather will be changeable with a mix of sunny spells and heavy showers, next week will start off with widespread showers, Met Eireann says.

Today (Friday) will be dry in many places with sunny spells however showers will become widespread this afternoon, Met Eireann says.

Some of these showers will be heavy, especially in the eastern half of the country, it says.

There will be highest temperatures today (Friday) of 14 to 17 degrees, it says with light to moderate northerly breezes.

Tonight (Friday) the showers will die out and it will become dry with clear spells, it says. There will be lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees, it says.

According to Met Eireann, tomorrow (Saturday) will be mainly dry with sunny spells but there will be a few showers in Connacht and Ulster.

Persistent rain will develop in the southeast in the evening and then spread northeastwards, it says.

There will be highest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees on Saturday, it says, with light variable breezes, which will become southerly and freshen later.

Rain will spread northeasteards overnight on Saturday to all areas along with fresh, gusty southeast winds, it says and the rain will be heavy in places with lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees.

Looking to Sunday, Met Eireann says that the day will start off wet however, rain will gradually clear to the north by mid-afternoon.

There will be a mix of bright spells and showers will follow, some of them heavy and Met Eireann says there will be highest temperatures of 14 to 19 degrees with moderate to fresh southeast winds becoming light to moderate southwesterly.

Outlook for next week

Looking to next week, Monday will be cool and breezy with widespread heavy showers, it says and there will be highest temperatures of 14 to 19 degrees.

On Tuesday, Met Eireann says that showers will continue to affect eastern parts of Ulster and Leinster for a time.

However, brighter, drier weather further west will extend to all areas and it says there will be highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees with moderate northwest breezes, decreasing mostly light.

Wednesday looks like being mainly dry, it says, however, there’s a risk of some rain in the south early in the day and some showers may develop in the east in the afternoon.

There will be highest temperatures on Wednesday of 15 to 18 degrees Met Eireann says with light, variable breezes.

At the moment Met Eireann says it looks like Thursday and Friday next will be dry apart from a few showers.
